The Toyota Sienna was then struck by a 2008 Toyota 4Runner traveling northbound on South Union Road. The impact of the collision caused both vehicles to veer off the road and into an open field, with the Toyota 4Runner coming to rest on its side.

Tragically, a 23-year-old Marengo man, identified as Jesus Bonilla, lost his life at the scene of the crash. Another 23-year-old passenger from the Toyota Sienna sustained life-threatening injuries and was rushed to Northwestern Medicine in Huntley. The drivers of the vehicles, a 40-year-old Woodstock woman and a 70-year-old Marengo man, along with a 41-year-old Marengo man who was also a passenger in the Toyota Sienna, were transported to Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin with non-life-threatening injuries.

The aftermath of the collision also resulted in damage to a utility pole, necessitating a response from ComEd to address the situation. Power outages ensued briefly as crews worked to repair the damage caused by the crash.
