Man Arrested for Fatal Stabbing in Southeast Albuquerque
An Albuquerque man, Juan Carlos Garcia, was taken into custody on Sunday following a tragic incident involving a fatal stabbing in Southeast Albuquerque. The incident, which resulted in the death of Luis Romero on April 7, was reportedly sparked by a confrontation over $300.
Location of the Incident
The horrifying incident took place in the 12800 block of Dorado, near Dunes in Southeast Albuquerque. Police responded to a call reporting a homicide at this location, where they discovered a trail of blood leading to an apartment.
Suspect’s Background
Juan Carlos Garcia, a 24-year-old resident of Albuquerque and a native of Columbia, is facing an open count of murder in connection with Luis Romero’s death. Garcia is also a suspect in a shooting that occurred in Southeast Albuquerque on September 15, but he was out on pretrial release at the time of the fatal stabbing.

Details of the Crime
Upon arriving at the scene of the crime, officers found blood stains in the apartment, including on a kitchen knife and in the living room. Romero, the victim, had been dropped off at Presbyterian Kaseman Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
According to a witness, Garcia admitted to stabbing Romero, whom he believed had stolen $300 from him two days prior to the incident. The confrontation between the two men escalated when Garcia retrieved a knife from the kitchen and fatally stabbed Romero. Garcia then enlisted the help of an individual known as “El Mono” to transport Romero to the hospital before fleeing the scene in another vehicle.
Legal Proceedings
Juan Carlos Garcia is currently being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center without bond. The identity of his legal representation remains unknown at this time. Police have confirmed that Garcia is a person of interest in another criminal case and urge anyone with information to come forward.
