The incident occurred on April 12, 2024, in the 400 block of North Quincy Street in Quitman, GA. The man involved in the shooting has been identified as Brian Williams, an 18-year-old resident of Quitman.

The events leading up to the shooting began when Quitman Police were investigating a previous shooting where a vehicle was targeted multiple times while occupied by several individuals. Acting on a tip, police officers spotted the vehicle believed to be connected to the earlier shooting while on patrol.

Two officers in a marked Quitman Police Tahoe initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle in question. However, upon activating their lights and sirens, the front seat passenger of the vehicle jumped out and attempted to flee on foot. Following the shooting, the injured suspect received medical attention at the scene for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. He is currently receiving treatment at a local hospital. The investigation into the incident remains ongoing, with the case set to be reviewed by District Attorney Brad Shealy of the Southern Judicial Circuit upon its conclusion.
