In Evansville, Indiana, a man was arrested by the police for stealing a rental car. The incident took place on Rodenburg Avenue, where the victim reported the stolen vehicle just after 4:15 p.m. The suspect, identified as Darrel Jennings Jr, took the car without permission, leading to a police chase. Eventually, Jennings was found hiding in an apartment building after attempting to flee. Upon searching the rental car, police discovered Jennings’s phone and a handgun. He now faces charges including felony possession of a firearm, two counts of resisting law enforcement, auto theft, and reckless driving. Authorities are urging caution and vigilance in such situations.

Theft of Rental Car in Evansville Leads to Arrest

A man was apprehended by Evansville Police Department officials on Sunday evening for multiple charges after stealing a rental car. The incident took place in the 3600 block of Rodenburg Avenue, Evansville.

According to an affidavit, officers responded to a report of a stolen vehicle just after 4:15 p.m. The victim, who had recently returned from a trip to St. Louis with her husband, was approached by Darrel Jennings Jr. The victim refused to lend the car to Jennings as it was a rental vehicle. Despite the refusal, Jennings took the car without permission at around 4 p.m.

Jennings was later spotted by police, driving recklessly and weaving in and out of traffic. He was eventually located in a parking lot, attempting to flee towards an apartment building.

During a search of the rental car, police discovered Jennings’s phone and a handgun in the driver’s side door. Subsequent investigations led officers to Jennings’s listed address on Sycamore Street, where he was found hiding in a closet.

Darrel Jennings Jr. was promptly taken into custody and charged with felony possession of a firearm, two counts of resisting law enforcement, auto theft, and reckless driving.
