The victims, Shahid, Abhishek, Salman, Asif, and Jahid, aged 16 to 22, were residents of Etah district. While bathing in the canal, they slipped into deep water and drowned due to the strong current. Local police and SDRF teams conducted rescue operations, retrieving the bodies for post-mortem. This tragedy occurred just a day after two sisters, aged 13 and 9, drowned in a pond in Ratibad. Another incident saw two friends drown in a well in the Satara area. Multiple incidents of drowning have left the community in mourning.

A group of nine youths ventured into the Hazara canal in the Nadrai area for a leisurely bath on a fateful Friday. However, the carefree outing took a tragic turn when the young men found themselves struggling in the deep waters, unable to withstand the strong current. The cries for help alerted passersby, prompting a swift response from the police and rescue teams.

Efforts to Save Lives

Despite the valiant efforts of the authorities, only four of the nine individuals were successfully rescued from the treacherous waters. The search and rescue operation led by local police and SDRF teams resulted in the recovery of two bodies on Friday, with three more retrieved the following day for further investigations through post-mortem examinations.

Just a day prior, two young girls from the same family tragically lost their lives while bathing in a pond in Ratibad. In yet another distressing incident on the same day, two friends met with a similar fate while swimming in a well near Bharti Vidyapeeth Tekdi in the Satara area. Vaibhav Subhash More and Sachin Seshrao Kale succumbed to drowning after a mishap with a floating device led to a tragic chain of events, leaving their companions in shock and disbelief.
