Incident Details
The blast occurred on a bridge that connects Phougakchao Ikhai Awang Leikai and Kwakta at 7.10 pm on June 21, 2023. The explosion, triggered by a bomb-fitted Mahindra Scorpio SUV, caused extensive damage to the bridge, an electric pole, electrical assets, and surrounding houses.
Transfer to NIA
Following the incident, the Manipur government transferred the case to the NIA on June 24, citing the alleged involvement of insurgents operating in the state and across the border. Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of Noor Hussain on October 16, 2023, and Seiminlun Gangte on November 2, who was later identified as the key conspirator.
Conspiracy Unveiled
According to NIA findings, Gangte conspired with his associates to blow up the bridge with the intention of instilling fear and disrupting the movement of security forces, civilians, and essential commodities.
