Two undercover police officers on a mission to arrest a wanted cult leader and notorious armed robber were attacked in Ibong Ikot Akpan Abasi Village, Otoro Clan, Abak Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. The officers, disguised in plain clothes and driving an unmarked vehicle, successfully apprehended the suspect but faced a brutal attack by hoodlums after the suspect raised a false alarm of being kidnapped. Despite presenting their identity cards, the officers were severely injured and are currently receiving treatment in a hospital. The Commissioner of Police has ordered a thorough investigation to capture the perpetrators and bring them to justice.

Chaos in Akwa Ibom Village as Police Officers Attacked

Two undercover policemen found themselves in a life-threatening situation when they embarked on a discreet mission to arrest a wanted criminal in Ibong Ikot Akpan Abasi Village, Otoro Clan in Abak Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. The officers, who were on a mission to apprehend a notorious cult leader and armed robber, were met with unexpected violence as they tried to carry out their duty.

Brutal Attack by Hoodlums

The officers, hailing from the Abak Divisional Headquarters, faced a harrowing experience when they were attacked by a group of hoodlums after successfully arresting their target, a criminal known as Udo. The situation took a dangerous turn when the suspect falsely claimed that he was being kidnapped by unknown individuals in a vehicle without any visible police markings.

The ensuing chaos led to a mob of youths from the community descending on the officers with machetes and other weapons, leaving them with severe injuries. Despite presenting their identity cards, the officers’ civilian appearance and unmarked vehicle only fueled the suspicion and aggression of the attackers.

Rescue and Intervention

Fortunately, the intervention of the Paramount Ruler of Abak, His Royal Majesty (HRM) Obong Saviour Udofia, played a crucial role in ensuring the safety of the officers. After the brutal attack, the injured policemen were swiftly evacuated to a nearby hospital for treatment. The outgoing Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Odiko MacDon, confirmed the incident and assured that the officers were responding well to medical care.

The Commissioner of Police (CP), Mr. Waheed Ayilara, wasted no time in ordering a thorough investigation into the incident.
