A Brockton man, Vasco Semedo, pleaded not guilty to charges of striking and killing a pedestrian in Brockton. Tragic Incident in Brockton

A Brockton man has entered a plea of not guilty after being charged with striking and killing a pedestrian in the city. The Plymouth County District Attorney, Timothy Cruz, has announced that 45-year-old Vasco Semedo pleaded not guilty to charges of Murder and Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle. He is currently being held without bail.

The incident took place at 65 North Main Street in Brockton, where Brockton Police responded to multiple 911 calls reporting a motor vehicle versus pedestrian crash. Upon arriving at the scene, police found Semedo being detained by bystanders. The victim, 50-year-old Stuart Smith, was unresponsive on the pavement and was rushed to Good Samaritan Hospital before being transferred to Massachusetts General Hospital. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 10:34 p.m. the same day.

Details of the Incident

According to investigators, Semedo was driving a Toyota Rav 4 when he struck Smith with his vehicle. Shockingly, Semedo then backed up and drove into the victim again before exiting the vehicle. He proceeded to strike Smith over 20 times with a brick as he lay on the ground. Bystanders intervened and detained Semedo until the police arrived and arrested him.

Following the tragic incident, friends of Smith expressed their sorrow and love for the victim. They have vowed to seek justice for their beloved friend.

Legal Proceedings
