The Sureño criminal enterprise has terrorized San Francisco’s Mission District for decades through shootings, robberies, and drug dealing, according to U.S. Attorney Ismail Ramsey. The sentences handed down in this case send a clear message that perpetrators of gang violence will be pursued and justice will be sought, no matter how long ago the violence occurred.

Individual Sentences

Eddy Urbina, 35, was sentenced to 32 years in prison for a September 4, 2008 shooting where he and others killed two victims and attempted to kill a third person in retaliation for a previous murder. Jonathan Aguilar, 37, received a 30-year prison term for his involvement in a March 14, 2006 shooting that resulted in two deaths and two attempted murders.

Retaliation Gone Wrong

Orlando Hernandez, 41, and Weston Venegas, 34, each received 13-year sentences for their involvement in a March 30, 2013 murder that was planned as retaliation but tragically targeted an innocent civilian mistaken for a rival. Juan Carlos Gallardo, 35, was sentenced to 22 years in prison for a shooting at a house party in Richmond in 2009 that claimed the life of a 16-year-old boy.

Seeking Closure for Victims’ Families

Mario Reyes, 44, was sentenced to 11 years in prison for his role in a 2013 incident, not directly related to the murder, but involving racketeering and narcotics. Tatum King, Homeland Security Investigations Special Agent in Charge, expressed hope that the sentences would bring solace and closure to the families of the victims who have endured suffering for a significant period of time.

Supervised Release

Upon completion of their prison terms, all six men will be required to spend five years on supervised release. The case serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts to combat gang violence and seek justice for the victims and their families.
