LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Family court records obtained by FOX5 are shedding light on the tragic shooting that took place at a law office in Summerlin. The incident occurred on Monday morning at the Prince Law Group located on Charleston and Pavilion Center Drive, near downtown Summerlin. Around 10:04 a.m., Las Vegas police and firefighters responded to reports of a shooting in the 10800 block of West Charleston Boulevard.

According to local lawyer Robert Eglet, the shooting erupted during a child custody deposition at the law office. The gunman, identified as Joe Houston, a Las Vegas attorney, shot two people before taking his own life. Houston was representing his son, Dylan Houston, in a custody battle against his ex-wife, Ashley Prince.

Ashley Prince, along with her new husband, attorney Dennis Prince, were identified as victims in the shooting. The Clark County coroner has yet to confirm the identities of the victims. Court records reveal that Dylan Houston and Ashley Prince had been embroiled in a bitter custody battle that began after their divorce in October 2021.

The custody battle intensified when Prince requested a “psychological evaluation” and drug testing for Houston. Records also show that Houston had a prior arrest in October 2020 on DUI charges, which were later reduced to reckless driving charges with a fine and a suspended jail sentence. In July 2023, Houston filed a motion to disqualify Dennis Prince as counsel for Ashley, which was denied by a judge in November 2023.

On the day of the shooting, both parties were present in court for a hearing on an emergency motion for sole custody filed by Ashley Prince. The motion was granted by a judicial officer during the hearing. In the aftermath of the tragedy, the Houston family released a statement expressing their shock and sadness, requesting privacy as they navigate the difficult days ahead.

“Our family is in a state of profound shock and sadness at yesterday’s events. We ask for prayers and privacy as we try to navigate the coming days. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is still conducting their investigation and as that continues, speculation about details of the incident only serves to add trauma to our already grieving and overwhelmed families. We have full faith in Metro’s efforts and will leave all future comment to them as their investigation unfolds.”

In conclusion, the deadly shooting at the Summerlin law office has left a community in mourning and raised questions about the complexities of family court disputes. As the investigation continues, the full extent of the tragedy and its impact on all involved parties remains to be seen.
