The owner of a popular samosa shop in Vadodara, along with five others, was arrested for selling samosas stuffed with cow meat to unsuspecting customers. The police raided the shop ‘Hussaini Samosa’ and seized hundreds of kilograms of samosa stuffing with beef ingredients, which were sent for FSL tests confirming the presence of cow meat. The accused, including owners Yusuf Sheikh and Naeem Sheikh, operated from a five-storey building where one room was converted into a deep freezer for storing the beef. Investigations are ongoing to determine how long they were selling beef-laced samosas and how they sourced the meat.

In a shocking turn of events, the owner of a popular samosa shop in Vadodara has been arrested for allegedly stuffing cow meat in samosas and selling them to unsuspecting customers. The incident came to light when the police received a tip-off and raided the shop named ‘Hussaini Samosa’ in the Chhipwad area.

During the raid, the police seized hundreds of kilograms of samosa stuffing containing beef ingredients, which were later sent for forensic testing. The tests confirmed the presence of cow meat in the samosas, leading to the arrest of six individuals, including the owners Yusuf Sheikh and Naeem Sheikh, as well as employees Hanif Bhathiyara, Dilawar Pathan, Moin Habdal, and Mobin Sheikh.

According to Panna Momaya, DCP (zone 4), the accused would prepare large quantities of raw samosas daily and supply them to various shops across the city. The retail shop owners would then fry and sell these samosas to customers, who were unaware of the meat content. The accused allegedly misrepresented the samosas as regular meat samosas, deceiving numerous consumers.

Further investigations revealed that the accused operated from a five-storey building, where one room was converted into a deep freezer for storing beef and meat. It was also discovered that the owners did not possess a valid license to run the shop, raising questions about the legality of their operations.

Yusuf Sheikh, one of the accused, admitted to using cow meat in the samosas due to its cost-effectiveness and profitability compared to buffalo or goat meat. The authorities are currently probing the sources of the beef and the duration for which the owners had been selling beef-laced samosas.

The incident has sparked outrage among the local community, with many expressing shock and disgust at the deceitful practices of the samosa shop owners. The police have assured that stringent action will be taken against the culprits to prevent such incidents in the future.

As the investigation continues, authorities are urging the public to remain cautious and vigilant while consuming street food to avoid falling victim to similar fraudulent activities. The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of food safety and regulatory compliance in the food industry.
