Israel Launches Air Strikes on Eastern Lebanon

Israel has launched air strikes on eastern Lebanon, targeting what it claims were Hezbollah infrastructure sites. The incident occurred after Hezbollah downed an Israeli drone over the country, escalating tensions between the two sides.

Israeli Air Strikes Hit Hezbollah Infrastructure Sites

The Israeli army announced that fighter jets carried out strikes on a military complex and three other infrastructure sites belonging to Hezbollah in the eastern city of Baalbek. The attack was in retaliation for Hezbollah’s downing of an Israeli drone in Lebanese airspace, identified as the Israeli-made Hermes 900 drone.

Escalating Tensions in the Region

Hezbollah and Israel have been exchanging fire across Lebanon’s southern border since Oct. 8, following an attack by the Palestinian group Hamas on Israel. This has led to a significant number of casualties on both sides, with Israeli shelling claiming the lives of around 270 Hezbollah fighters and 50 civilians. In addition, approximately 90,000 people have been displaced in southern Lebanon, while over 96,000 Israelis have been forced to leave their homes in the northern border area.

Diplomatic Efforts to Resolve the Conflict

The US and other countries have been working towards a diplomatic solution to the ongoing conflict between Hezbollah and Israel. However, Hezbollah has stated that it will not cease fire until a ceasefire is implemented in Gaza.
