A team of the state disaster response force (SDRF) recovered the body of a youth who drowned in the Brahmaputra river while clicking selfies near Guwahati. The incident occurred when a group of six youths went to the riverbank to take a bath. Three of them fell into the river and drowned. Guwahati: Tragedy struck a group of six youths from the Amiyanagar area in Chandmari as they went to the bank of the Brahmaputra river to take a bath on Friday afternoon. Three of the youths tragically drowned in the river, with their bodies being recovered by the state disaster response force (SDRF) over the course of Friday evening and Saturday morning.

The incident occurred when the group of friends, all in their late teens and early twenties, decided to visit the Sunsali area of the city for a fun day out. Tragedy struck when three of the youths slipped from a rock into the river while trying to click selfies.

The bodies of two of the youths, both aged 17, were found on Friday evening, while the body of the third victim, identified as Rahul Das (22), was recovered on Saturday morning. The SDRF team, along with local residents, made valiant efforts to rescue the youths, but unfortunately, were unable to save them.

Krishna Sahoo, the investigating officer of Noonmati police station, shared, “Eyewitnesses said the three boys climbed a rock on the bank to click selfies and slipped from it. Despite the best efforts of their friends and locals, the tragic accident could not be averted.”
