The Flying Squad Teams (FST) intercepted three men on an express train to Tirunelveli, seizing Rs 3.98 crores in cash. The men claimed they were distributing the money to voters in Tirunelveli on the instructions of BJP MLA Nainar Nagendran. identified as Sathish (33), Naveen (26), and Perumal (26), the trio was apprehended at Tambaram Railway Station. The cash was seized, and the men were arrested. Further investigation is ongoing, with three additional individuals implicated. The recovered funds have been handed over to the Tahsildar, and the Income Tax Department has been informed. The DEO has sent all relevant information to the Income Tax Department for a detailed probe.

Money Seized from Trio Traveling to Tirunelveli

On a Saturday night, the Flying Squad Teams (FST) made a significant seizure of Rs 3.98 crores from three individuals who were traveling on an express train headed to Tirunelveli. The incident took place on a train route to the southern city of Tirunelveli, known for its rich cultural heritage and vibrant community.

Arrest and Confession

Following the discovery of the large sum of money, the flying squad officials promptly informed the Tambaram police, who swiftly took action by arresting the trio. The men, identified as Sathish, Naveen, and Perumal, were found in possession of five bags containing a total of Rs 3,98,91,500. Upon interrogation, the trio confessed that they were carrying out instructions from Tirunelveli BJP MLA Nainar Nagendran to distribute the cash to voters in the region.

Police Investigation and Further Steps

Acting on a tip-off, the FST had been monitoring the movements of the trio from Egmore until they were apprehended at Tambaram Railway Station. The police are currently conducting a thorough investigation into the matter and have also identified three other individuals allegedly involved in the scheme. The recovered cash has been handed over to the Tahsildar, with the Income Tax department duly informed of the seizure for further proceedings.

Income Tax Department Involvement

Chengalpattu District Election Officer (DEO) has stated that any amount exceeding Rs 10 lakh seized during the election period will be subject to scrutiny by the Income Tax Department. As such, all relevant information pertaining to the seizure has been forwarded to the tax authorities, who will carry out a detailed investigation into the matter.
