A judge has denied pre-trial release for a suspect who allegedly kidnapped a woman in Wadsworth after following her from a bar in Waukegan. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call around 2:10 a.m. on February 25 from a witness who reported her friend had just been kidnapped by an unknown male.
The Kidnapping
The victim, a 22-year-old woman from Whitewater, Wisconsin, left Ibiza bar in Waukegan with a friend. While driving home, they encountered Jonatan Luna-Carrasco, 28, of North Chicago, who pulled alongside them on Route 41 in Wadsworth. Luna-Carrasco informed them of a flat tire and they pulled over.
The Abduction
Once the women were stopped, Luna-Carrasco offered to assist in changing the flat tire. He encouraged the victim, who was intoxicated, to stay warm inside his car. Luna-Carrasco then allegedly fled with the woman against her will. The victim managed to jump out of the car in the 3500 block of Highland Avenue in Gurnee and sought help.

The Investigation
Sheriff’s deputies used Flock Camera technology to locate Luna-Carrasco’s Dodge, leading to his arrest in Waukegan. Surveillance video captured the victim going from house to house, with the Dodge driving up and down the street multiple times before she was located.
The Suspect’s Account
During his detention hearing, Luna-Carrasco claimed that he was with his three daughters at the scene and got nervous, thinking one of the women had a gun. However, the public defender’s account was disputed by the prosecutor, who stated that the women did not report seeing anyone else in Luna-Carrasco’s car.
