The shocking incident of a father allegedly poisoning his 18-month-old daughter to death due to her dark complexion has sent shockwaves through the community in Vijayawada. The accused, Mahesh from Petasannegandla village, reportedly fed poisoned prasadam to his daughter Akshaya and then coerced his wife Shravani to lie about the cause of the baby’s death.
According to reports, Shravani had been facing abuse and torture from her husband and in-laws for giving birth to a baby with a dark complexion. They had even prevented her from spending time with the baby. On March 31, Shravani found her baby unconscious with a bleeding nose and rushed her to Karempudi government hospital, where she was declared dead.
Mahesh allegedly pressured Shravani to lie to their relatives about the cause of Akshaya’s death and quickly buried the baby without allowing for a proper investigation. However, suspicions arose when Shravani’s mother noticed inconsistencies and sought the intervention of the local panchayat. Subsequently, Shravani opened up about the abuse she had been facing and filed a complaint with the Karempudi police.
The case has garnered attention from the AP State Child Rights Protection Commission, which has ordered a full-scale investigation into the baby’s death. The child’s body has been exhumed for a post-mortem examination, and the investigation is currently ongoing under the supervision of CI Mallaiah.
