Body of Missing Buffalo Man Found 30 Years Later in Lake Ontario

In a tragic turn of events, the body of Vincent Stack, a Buffalo man who went missing in Niagara Falls State Park in 1990, has been identified after washing up on the shores of Lake Ontario in 1992. The Oswego County Sheriff’s Office recently announced that DNA technology has helped solve the mystery of Stack’s disappearance.

Discovery and Identification

Stack went missing on December 4, 1990, and his remains drifted 15 miles to the mouth of the St. Lawrence River before making their way across Lake Ontario and washing ashore in April 1992. The badly decomposed and mostly skeletal remains were initially difficult to identify, with the medical examiner estimating that the individual had been deceased for between six months and five years.

After 30 years, in 2022, authorities renewed their efforts to identify the remains and collaborated with the Niagara Regional Police Service in Ontario, Canada. Detective Constable Sara Mummery played a crucial role in obtaining a new DNA sample from the remains for comparison with missing person cases in both countries.
