MILWAUKEE – Two individuals from Milwaukee, Carlos DeNova and Amarri Watson, have been arrested and charged in connection with a shooting incident that left a 6-year-old boy injured on Tuesday, March 26. The incident occurred near the intersection of 38th and Villard in Milwaukee.

The victim, Tarrance Scott Jr., sustained a gunshot wound to his knee and was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. According to the victim’s mother, the shooting took place while they were getting ready for bed, highlighting the sudden and distressing nature of the incident.

Law enforcement officials responded to the scene and discovered two bullet strikes on the exterior of the home, as well as eleven bullet casings scattered outside in the street. The presence of multiple rounds fired underscores the severity and potential danger of the situation.

Surveillance Footage Provides Crucial Evidence

Surveillance footage from a gas station on Villard Avenue captured a distinct pickup truck approximately an hour before the shooting. The footage shows the driver, identified as Carlos DeNova, brandishing a firearm, while Watson, his passenger, was also seen in the vehicle.

At the time of the shooting, around 9:15 p.m., the pickup truck was observed heading towards 38th Street, in the direction of the victim’s residence. Subsequent footage showed the truck driving away from the scene in a reckless manner. Additionally, a separate camera managed to capture the license plate of the vehicle, providing crucial evidence for the investigation.

Arrests and Confessions

A witness came forward and informed authorities that DeNova had confessed to her about the shooting, although he was unsure about who had fired the shot that injured the young boy. Police apprehended DeNova near 76th and Lapham three days after the incident, while Watson was arrested the following day.

Forensic analysis revealed that the bullet casings recovered at the scene originated from two distinct firearms. One of the guns was discovered in the home where Watson was apprehended, while the other was located in the pickup truck during DeNova’s arrest.

Upon being taken into custody, Watson admitted that DeNova had provided him with a ride home on the night of the shooting. Watson stated that DeNova had expressed intentions to “blow this (expletive)” before firing his weapon into the air, prompting Watson to do the same.

Legal Charges and Court Proceedings

Carlos DeNova, aged 21, faces charges including first-degree reckless injury, endangering safety by use of a dangerous weapon, possession of a firearm by a felon (four counts), and misdemeanor resisting/obstructing an officer. He was scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, April 2.

Amarri Watson, aged 20, has been charged with first-degree reckless injury and endangering safety by use of a dangerous weapon. Watson made his initial court appearance on Tuesday, with his cash bond set at $50,000.
