The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating after an officer shot a man during a chase in Northeast D.C. DC News Now reported that investigators witnessed an argument and attempted to stop a man holding a gun, identified as Deion Hinnant. Hinnant fled, prompting an investigator to shoot at him multiple times. Hinnant was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, and his gun was found at the scene. He was charged with several offenses. The investigators involved were put on administrative leave, and their body-worn camera footage will be released later. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is also assisting in the investigation.

The Shooting Incident in Northeast Washington, D.C.

On a bustling evening in Northeast D.C., the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) found themselves in the midst of a tense situation. It was around 9 p.m. when investigators from the Violent Crime Suppression Division’s Robbery Suppression Unit were patrolling the 2100 block of Bladensburg Road. What they encountered was an argument escalating, leading to a dangerous confrontation.

The Chase and Confrontation

As the investigators stepped out of their cruiser, they were met with a chilling sight – a man armed with a gun. Identified as 31-year-old Deion Hinnant of Northeast, the man took off running as soon as he spotted the officers. A frantic chase ensued, with the investigators urging Hinnant to show his hands. Ignoring their commands, he made a sudden movement, causing one of the investigators to fire multiple shots in his direction.

Emergency Response and Arrest

DC Fire and EMS swiftly arrived on the scene to attend to Hinnant, who had sustained serious injuries. He was promptly taken to the hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, officers recovered the gun that Hinnant had brandished during the altercation. Subsequently, Hinnant was arrested and hit with a slew of charges, including assault on a police officer and possession of an unregistered firearm.

Investigation and Assistance

Following the incident, MPD adhered to protocol by placing the involved investigators on administrative leave. The body-worn camera footage capturing the events would be made public at a later date.
