At 7:03 p.m. on Tuesday, Hickory Police responded to reports of a shooting at 2994 Highway 127 South, where they found Mr. Flynn with a gunshot wound. He was later pronounced deceased at Frye Regional Medical Center. The suspect, 19-year-old Nicholas Huffman of Vale, was found with gunshot wounds and taken to Catawba Valley Medical Center. Upon arrival, they discovered Mr. Flynn with a gunshot wound. He was quickly transported to Frye Regional Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

During their investigation, officers were informed that a potential suspect had fled the scene in a white Audi. The vehicle was swiftly located by Brookford Police at 7:08 p.m. The suspect, identified as 19-year-old Nicholas Huffman from Vale, was found to have sustained a gunshot wound during the altercation. Huffman was rushed to Catawba Valley Medical Center by Catawba County E.M.S. for treatment of his serious injuries.
