Man Missing for Over 30 Years at Niagara Falls Identified as Buffalo Resident
In a recent development, the remains of a man who went missing at Niagara Falls State Park over three decades ago have finally been identified. The Oswego County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that the man, previously unknown, is Vincent C. Stack from Buffalo.
Disappearance and Discovery
Vincent C. Stack went missing from Niagara Falls on December 4, 1990, and was believed to have gone over the falls. However, his remains were not discovered until April 8, 1992, on the shore of Lake Ontario in what is now known as Novelis Point, just outside of Oswego. Stack’s journey from Niagara Falls to Lake Ontario covered around 15 miles to the mouth of the river, and then over 130 miles across the lake over the next 16 months.
Identification Process
At the time of the discovery, Stack’s remains were badly decomposed and mostly skeletal, making efforts to identify him unsuccessful. It wasn’t until 2022 that the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office renewed their efforts to identify the remains. Through the use of DNA samples and collaboration with Canadian authorities, Stack was finally identified.
Further Investigations
The Oswego County Sheriff’s Office has stated that they are actively working on several other missing persons and unidentified remains cases in the Lake Ontario area. This recent identification brings closure to a decades-old mystery and provides answers to Stack’s family and loved ones.
