KENNER, La. (WGNO) — Three individuals found themselves in hot water after routine traffic stops in Kenner led to significant drug busts on Tuesday, March 26.

The Kenner Police Department reported that their officers pulled over a vehicle in the 1500 block of Veterans Boulevard around noon. Upon further inspection, it was discovered that the driver, identified as 29-year-old Oliver Adams, was allegedly in possession of a substantial amount of illegal substances. The contraband included cocaine, 460 grams of marijuana packaged for distribution, hallucinogenic substances (mushrooms) in a glass jar, a digital scale, a firearm, and $3,700 in cash.

Adams was promptly arrested and is now facing a slew of charges related to traffic violations, drug possession, and illegal weapons possession. The KPD noted that a weapon trace is currently underway to determine ownership and any potential prior convictions associated with the firearm.

In a separate incident, KPD officers stopped another vehicle in the 600 block of Williams Boulevard. The driver, identified as John Childers, was found to have an outstanding warrant from the New Orleans Police Department for second-degree rape.

During the subsequent investigation, it was revealed that the passenger in Childers’ vehicle, identified as 39-year-old Rachael Miller, was in possession of marijuana, crystal meth, cocaine, mushrooms, and two firearms.

Both Childers and Miller were taken into custody and are now facing charges including traffic violations, possession with intent to distribute illegal substances, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of a firearm in the presence of narcotics. Additionally, Childers was re-arrested for the rape charge and sent back to New Orleans.
