On Tuesday morning, tragedy struck at the intersection of Frontage Road and Traveler Street in South Boston. A man in a wheelchair lost his life after being struck by a cement truck, according to police reports.
Details of the Incident
State Police troopers rushed to the scene at approximately 10:10 a.m. in response to a collision involving a cement truck and a pedestrian in a wheelchair. The victim, identified only as an adult male, sustained fatal injuries in the accident. As of mid-afternoon, authorities had not disclosed further information about the tragic incident as investigations continue.
Shortly after noon, a portion of Traveler Street beneath I-93 was cordoned off and surrounded by a fleet of emergency vehicles, as reported by The Boston Globe. Crews were witnessed loading a cement truck belonging to Boston Sand & Gravel onto a tow truck for further examination.

Among the debris left in the aftermath were a folded wheelchair, two shopping bags, and a stack of white sheets seemingly stained with blood. Authorities collected these items, along with a gray shoe discovered in an adjacent lane, and loaded them onto a MassDOT pickup truck for analysis.
By 12:20 p.m., the cement truck had been removed, and firefighters from the Boston Fire Department were seen washing down the street to clear the area.
