Police Apprehend Stolen Mercedes in Dramatic Highway Chase

In a daring late-night operation, Stafford police successfully intercepted a stolen 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLC on Route 72 near Marsha Drive. The luxury SUV, which had been reported stolen from Nutley, was involved in a hit-and-run accident earlier in the day in Newark, further escalating the urgency of the situation.

High-Speed Pursuit

As the stolen Mercedes evaded attempts at a traffic stop, law enforcement officers sprang into action, deploying spike strips to puncture the vehicle’s tires. The pursuit continued onto the Garden State Parkway, culminating in the apprehension of all five occupants after the SUV became immobile at mile marker 94.5.

Swift Justice

Following the arrest, four of the occupants, identified as juveniles, faced charges of eluding and receiving a stolen vehicle. Two of the minors were remanded to a juvenile detention facility, while the remaining two were released into the care of their legal guardians pending future court proceedings. The sole adult, Kyera Green, 18, of Newark, was briefly held at the Ocean County Jail before being released.

Collaborative Effort

The successful operation was a result of seamless coordination between multiple law enforcement agencies, including the New Jersey State Police, Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, Ocean County Sheriff’s Department, Brick Police, Wall Police, and Nutley Police. Stafford Patrolman Russell Okinsky, the primary arresting officer, led the charge with unwavering dedication and professionalism.
