Body of Transient Woman Found in Russian River Identified

The Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed the identity of the woman whose body was discovered in the Russian River at the end of last month. The deceased has been identified as Caitlin Bunger, a 37-year-old female who was known to be transient in the Ukiah area.

The grim discovery was made by a kayaker in the vicinity of Morrison Creek and Old River Road on the afternoon of Sunday, March 24. Following the finding, a post-mortem examination was carried out on March 27 as part of the coroner’s investigation.

Through diligent research and comparison of medical records, authorities were able to positively identify Bunger as the deceased individual. The Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office Coroner’s Unit then contacted Bunger’s legal next-of-kin to inform them of her tragic passing. According to her family, Bunger had relocated to California just five to six months prior to the incident.

Previous Missing Persons Reports

Records show that Bunger had been reported as a missing person to the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office on two occasions – once in October and again in March. During these investigations, it was revealed that Bunger was homeless and frequented the Perkins Street Bridge area in Ukiah.
