Kochi: A tragic incident unfolded at a hospital in Ernakulam on Sunday afternoon, as a 37-year-old woman was brutally murdered in broad daylight. The victim, identified as Simna Sakeer of Kottakudythazhath, Punnamattom, was attacked by the accused, Shahul, also from Punnamattom. The Muvattupuzha police swiftly arrested Shahul and registered an FIR under IPC Sections 302 for murder and 341 for wrongful restraint based on the victim’s mother’s statement.
According to the FIR, Simna was about to leave the hospital after visiting her father when the attack took place. Shahul ambushed her in the veranda of the maternity ward around 2:30 pm. He grabbed her from behind and inflicted a deep cut on her neck with a knife he was carrying. Subsequently, he repeatedly stabbed her in the back, causing severe injuries.
Authorities suspect that the attacker was acquainted with the victim, and the motive behind the brutal assault was likely due to Simna distancing herself from Shahul. The victim’s family revealed that Shahul had been harassing them, especially when under the influence of alcohol. Police are conducting a thorough investigation to uncover the full motive behind the heinous crime.
During the attack, Shahul sustained injuries on his hands. After the assault, he attempted to flee the scene but was apprehended by local residents before the police arrived. The weapon used in the attack was recovered from the victim’s body. Following a medical examination, Shahul was taken into custody. Simna’s body will undergo an autopsy before being released to her family.
