The Scene of the Accident

The location of the accident is a bustling area with multiple lanes and a narrow traffic island that separates eastbound and westbound traffic. It is a stretch of highway that is typically busy with vehicles, and pedestrians do not usually traverse this area as there is no designated crosswalk.

Despite the lack of a crosswalk, Corey was walking from the Walmart parking lot towards the dollar store when the tragic collision occurred. The absence of proper pedestrian facilities in this area may have contributed to the unfortunate outcome.

Investigation and Assistance

The Somerset County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the crash, with Deputy Jeffrey Brann leading the investigation. Authorities have ruled out speed and alcohol as factors in the accident.

Notably, drone technology recently acquired by the sheriff’s office was utilized in investigating and reconstructing the accident scene. The Newport Fire Department, Police Department, and Northern Light Ambulance Service all provided assistance in the aftermath of the tragic incident.
