Man Indicted for the Shooting of Blount County Sheriff’s Deputy

Blount County, Tennessee – Kenneth Wayne DeHart, the man accused of shooting and killing Blount County Sheriff’s Deputy Greg McCowan, has been indicted by a grand jury. The tragic incident took place in the 4900 block of Sevierville Road on February 8, resulting in the death of Deputy McCowan and the injury of another deputy, Shelby Eggers.

Arraignment Set for April 5

DeHart’s arraignment is scheduled for Friday, April 5, following the grand jury indictment. The other deputy involved in the shooting, Shelby Eggers, was treated at UT Medical Center and has since been released.

Capture and Arrest in Knoxville

After a nearly five-day-long search, DeHart was captured at a residence in Knoxville. Security footage of the incident shows DeHart exiting the home through a back door after loud noises are heard.

Legal Proceedings
