32-Year-Old Man Allegedly Kills Girlfriend After Marriage Proposal Rejected in Bengaluru

A 32-year-old man in Bengaluru, identified as Girish NL, also known as Rehan Ahmed, has been accused of taking the life of his girlfriend, Farida Khatoon, after she declined his marriage proposal. The shocking incident unfolded in public view at Shalini Ground in Jayanagar V Block, leaving the victim fatally wounded and the accused in police custody.

Background of the Victim and Accused

Farida Khatoon, a mother of two daughters aged 21 and 16, originally from Kolkata, had been working at a unisex spa in the city for the past four years. Girish, on the other hand, worked as a spare car driver and first met Khatoon during a visit to a spa in south Bengaluru in 2022. Their acquaintance blossomed into a relationship over time, as reported by TOI.

The Tragic Incident

The incident occurred on a day that was supposed to be a celebration, coinciding with Girish’s birthday. Khatoon, who had returned from her hometown on March 28 with one of her daughters, spent time together with Girish before heading out. It was during their outing to Shalini Ground that Girish proposed marriage to Khatoon. However, her refusal reportedly triggered a violent response from Girish, who proceeded to assault her with a knife, resulting in fatal stab wounds.

Revelations and Surrender

Despite efforts by authorities and witnesses, Khatoon succumbed to her injuries at the scene. Girish fled the area but eventually surrendered himself at the Jayanagar police station within an hour of the incident. It has been revealed that Girish, originally from a Hindu family, converted to Islam in 2011 under the name Rehan Ahmed. However, in 2016, he reverted to his birth name to facilitate his sister’s marriage prospects.

Motive Behind the Heinous Act

The motive behind the act appears to stem from Girish’s desire for marriage, which was met with Khatoon’s refusal. Despite Girish’s alleged plea for her to leave her job and marry him, Khatoon remained resolute in her decision, leading to the fatal confrontation. Authorities are still working to recover the murder weapon, believed to have been discarded by the accused before his surrender.
