The Florida Woman Who Thought Shoplifting was a Game

Last week in Palm Coast, Florida, a bizarre incident caught the attention of the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office. A concerned citizen reported a shoplifter at a local Walmart, leading deputies to confront 30-year-old Amber McCann in the parking lot.

The Alleged Shoplifting Game

According to body camera footage posted on the sheriff’s office Facebook page, McCann claimed she was playing a game called “21,” where the goal was to steal as much as possible without getting caught. She filled a shopping cart with items and walked out of the store without paying, only to be confronted by deputies.

The Confrontation

Deputies asked McCann which car she put the stolen merchandise in, to which she initially claimed it was a “random” vehicle. However, she later admitted it was her boyfriend’s rented car. Deputies found the car and discovered not only the stolen items but also glass pipes, marijuana, methamphetamine, and other drugs. In the trunk, they found a safe containing valuable silver, copper, and platinum bars.

The Arrest

McCann was arrested for grand theft between $750 and $5,000, along with various drug-related charges. She was taken to jail on a $34,000 bond and remains there as of Monday morning. Sheriff Rick Staly remarked, “If she really thought she was playing a shoplifting game, she lost to our deputies and observant citizens.”

The Aftermath

Despite her nonchalant attitude towards the incident, McCann now faces serious legal consequences for her actions. The incident serves as a reminder that shoplifting is a crime with real-world repercussions, not a game to be played for fun.
