The incident took place in Guwahati’s Pandu area, where the young man, Mansur Alam, was found hanging in his house on March 1.

Baruah was arrested on March 1 for alleged abetment to suicide following the mysterious death of Mansur Alam, who had been arrested the previous year for allegedly raping her. The family members of Mansur claimed that he took his own life due to the mental torture inflicted by Baruah.

After the family lodged a complaint with Guwahati’s Jalukbari Police Station, Baruah was arrested and taken into custody. However, the investigating police officer failed to produce the case diary despite repeated directions from the court, leading to Baruah being granted bail on March 29.

Legal Proceedings

The district magistrate’s court fixed the bail amount at ₹30,000 along with a surety for Baruah’s release. Following the court’s order, Baruah submitted an application for her release, and she is expected to be released on Saturday.
