Man Arrested in Maryland for Murder of Midlands Resident in South Carolina

A Midlands resident was tragically killed in a shooting, and authorities have now charged a man with murder in connection to the incident. The suspect, Quenell Marquis Anderson, a 37-year-old Edgefield County resident, was apprehended on March 20 in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, which is over 500 miles away from South Carolina.

Anderson’s arrest was made possible with the help of the Maryland State Police and the Prince George’s County Police Department, as announced by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) in a recent news release.

Details of the Incident

According to an arrest warrant shared by SLED, Anderson allegedly shot the victim, 35-year-old Sumter resident Ricky Martin, multiple times on March 2. The suspect was identified as the shooter by a reliable source known to law enforcement, along with other evidence gathered during SLED’s investigation.

Despite the arrest, the motive behind the shooting remains unclear at this time. Authorities have not disclosed why Anderson was in Maryland or how he was located in the state. However, after being extradited back to South Carolina, Anderson was booked at the Edgefield County Detention Center and is currently being held at the Newberry County Detention Center without bond, according to jail records.
