Turkana County Police Eliminate 3 Hardcore Criminals in Banditry Crackdown
Following President William Ruto’s directive to intensify efforts in combating banditry in the North Rift region, the National Police Service (NPS) recorded a major victory over the weekend. In a swift operation in Turkana County, officers managed to eliminate three notorious criminals who had been wreaking havoc in the area.
Mastermind of Attacks Shot Dead
According to the statement released by NPS, one of the criminals gunned down was identified as the mastermind behind a series of attacks in the North Rift. This individual had been a key figure in instigating violence and causing fear among the local residents.
Chase for Homicide Suspect
The second criminal was on the run for a homicide case involving a police officer. He had been evading authorities for quite some time and was finally brought down in the operation. Additionally, the third individual was a close associate of the other two perpetrators.

Shootout in Kangalita
The encounter between NPS officers and the suspected bandits took place at Kangalita in Kalemnyang, resulting in the fatal shooting of all three criminals. An AK47 rifle with ammunition and spent cartridges was recovered at the scene, indicating the intensity of the confrontation.
Gang Leader with Pending Cases
The gang leader, who had three pending court cases related to robbery with violence, sexual assault, and threatening to kill, had been a notorious figure in the criminal underworld. He was also under investigation for various other violent crimes, including highway robberies and possession of illicit firearms.
Sharpshooter on the Run
One of the criminals, nicknamed Sharpshooter, had been evading authorities since the killing of a police officer three years ago. He was also implicated in an ambush on an OCS stationed at Lorugum in December 2023, causing significant harm.

President Ruto, in a meeting with Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki and police chiefs, emphasized the need for a different approach to handling incidents of cattle rustling and banditry in the North Rift region.
