Forest Official Killed in Hill Cutting Drive
In a tragic incident, a forest official was fatally crushed under the wheels of a mini truck during a drive against hill cutting at Harinmara in Cox’s Bazar early Sunday morning. The victim, Md Sajjaduzzaman, was the in-charge of the Dochari forest beat of Ukhiya range and hailed from Munshiganj’s Gajaria. The incident also left the driver, Mohammad Ali, injured.
Details of the Incident
According to forest department officials, Sajjad and Ali were conducting a drive based on information about hill cutting and soil collection at Harinmara by a dumper. When the soil-laden dumper was confronted by the forest officials, the driver of the vehicle deliberately ran over Sajjad, resulting in his immediate death. Locals at the scene managed to rescue the injured driver, Mohammad Ali, and rushed him to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital for treatment.
Identification of the Culprits
Ukhiya range officer, Gazi Shafiul Alam, revealed that the owner of the dumper involved in the incident is Syed Karim, while the driver was identified as Bappi. The body of the deceased forest official was transferred to the morgue at Sadar Hospital for autopsy, as confirmed by Shamim Hossain, the officer-in-charge of Ukhiya Police Station.
