A 65-year-old Mahant was found brutally murdered in Uttar Pradesh’s Sitapur after disappearing mysteriously four days ago. The police discovered his body cut into three pieces and stuffed inside a jute bag on Siddhauli Road. The Mahant, from an ashram in Hardoi district, had gone missing while on an annual pilgrimage in Sitapur’s Mishrikh. Police began searching for him after his nephew reported him missing when his mobile phone was unreachable. Preliminary examination suggested that the attackers hacked the Mahant to death with a sharp-edged weapon and then cut his body with another weapon before disposing of it in a jute bag. The deceased was identified as Mahant Mani Ram Das of Brahm Rishi Nimiya Baba Ashram in Girdharpur village of Hardoi. The body was found 200 meters inside Kesaripur Road after locals complained of a foul smell. Police have sent the body for post-mortem examination and collected samples for further investigation.

Tragic Murder of Mahant in Uttar Pradesh
A 65-year-old Mahant, who had disappeared in mysterious circumstances four days ago, has been found dead in Uttar Pradesh’s Sitapur. The police found his body cut in three pieces stuffed inside a jute bag in the bushes on Siddhauli Road. The mahant, from an ashram in Hardoi district, had gone missing while completing his annual pilgrimage in Sitapur’s Mishrikh four days ago, reported news agency IANS.
Search for the Missing Mahant
Police have been searching for him after his nephew, Tai Ram lodged a missing report with Mishrikh police station after finding the mobile phone of the mahant went unreachable, the report added.
Brutal Attack and Murder
After assessing the body, Mishrikh Circle Officer, Rajesh Kumar, said preliminary examination suggested that the attackers hacked the mahant to death with a sharp-edged weapon and thereafter cut the body using some other weapon. Kumar said the assailants later disposed the body after stuffing it into a jute bag.
Investigation and Findings
The officer further said the spot examination hinted that the mahant was killed somewhere else and his body was dumped there to mislead the police. The deceased was identified as Mahant Mani Ram Das, of Brahm Rishi Nimiya Baba Ashram in Girdharpur village of Hardoi, the cops said.
