Preethi (17), a Class XII student. All four women hailed from Gudiyatham town and had gone to visit the Muniswaran temple in Veppur village.

Tragic Turn of Events

Following their visit to the temple, Kaviya, Preethi, and their mother Lavanya decided to cool off by taking a bath in the lake situated behind the temple. Unfortunately, none of the women knew how to swim, and tragedy struck when they were dragged into the centre of the lake due to the slippery bund. Lavanya, who was holding a relative’s child, could only watch in horror as her loved ones struggled in the water.

Swift Rescue Efforts

As the situation escalated, Lavanya cried out for help, prompting bystanders and temple-goers to rush to the scene. Firefighters and police from Gudiyatham town were alerted, and a team led by P. Saravanan, Leading Station Firemen, bravely entered the lake to retrieve the bodies of the victims. Despite their valiant efforts, it was too late to save the lives of the four women.

Ongoing Investigation

The bodies of the deceased were transferred to the Government Medical College Hospital in Vellore, where further procedures and investigations will be carried out. Gudiyatham Town police have registered a case regarding the incident, and the community is left grappling with the shock and sorrow of losing four cherished members in such a tragic and unforeseen manner.
