A devastating incident unfolded in KwaZakhele, Gqeberha, on a Friday evening, resulting in the tragic death of a beloved tavern owner. The deceased, identified as Philasande (Coke) Jakavula, aged 53 and hailing from Bluewater Bay, was fatally shot while travelling in a minibus.
The harrowing scene was discovered by SAPS Kwazakhele members during a routine patrol. They came across a white Toyota Quantum minibus riddled with bullet holes at the intersection of Daku and Salumntu Streets.
Upon closer inspection, they found the lifeless body of Jakavula with gunshot wounds, seated in the driver’s side of the vehicle. A woman, also a victim of the shooting, was found lying beside the minibus with gunshot wounds. Additionally, another male passenger had sustained gunshot injuries and was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
The motive behind this senseless act of violence remains unknown, and authorities continue their investigation to unravel the circumstances leading to this tragic event.
