Authorities have identified the Baltimore County Police Department officers involved in the fatal officer-involved shooting that took place on January 9, 2024, in Pikesville. The officers are Officer Helphenstine, a 5-year veteran; Officer Taylor, a 4-year veteran; and Officer Fleck, a 3-year veteran. The victim, 29-year-old Sha-Kim Akil Webley of Windsor Mill, was fatally shot. The Independent Investigations Division (IID) released a redacted version of the body-worn camera footage on March 15, 2024, for safety concerns. Baltimore County (WBFF) — Following a tragic incident on January 9, 2024, in Pikesville, Baltimore County Police Department officials have identified the officers involved in the fatal officer-involved shooting.
Officer Helphenstine, Officer Taylor, and Officer Fleck
The officers at the center of the shooting have been named as Officer Helphenstine, a 5-year veteran; Officer Taylor, a 4-year veteran; and Officer Fleck, a 3-year veteran. These officers were on duty and responding to a call when the incident occurred in Pikesville.
Victim Identified as Sha-Kim Akil Webley
The victim of the fatal shooting has been identified as 29-year-old Sha-Kim Akil Webley, a resident of Windsor Mill. The circumstances surrounding the shooting are currently under investigation by the Independent Investigations Division (IID).
Body-Worn Camera Footage
On March 15, 2024, the IID released a redacted version of the body-worn camera footage captured during the incident. This footage has been edited to protect the identities of the officers involved due to safety concerns. However, an updated release of the footage without redactions is now available for public viewing.
