According to the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office, she allegedly abused a total of 22 patients – some diabetics, some not – with the dangerous doses she administered at five different care facilities from 2020 to this year.

Now a new lawsuit was filed against one of those facilities, Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Butler County, Pennsylvania, where Nicholas Cymbol died on May 1, 2023.

The suit — filed Wednesday in Butler County, said the family’s attorney, Rob Peirce — alleges that the center and its operator acted negligently, failed to train staff to recognize and report abuse, and failed to remove Pressdee from Cymbol’s care despite her bullying and calling him a derogatory term.

Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center did not immediately respond to a request for comment Friday.

The Tragic Passing of Nicholas Cymbol at Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center

Nicholas Cymbol, a 43-year-old resident at Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Butler County, Pennsylvania, tragically passed away on May 1, 2023. Cymbol, who was a fragile diabetic with various health issues, required constant care due to his condition.

Heather Pressdee, the nurse in charge of Cymbol’s care at Sunnyview, was responsible for his well-being and treatment. However, allegations surfaced that Pressdee mistreated and abused Cymbol, along with other residents at the facility.

Despite warnings and concerns raised by staff members about Pressdee’s behaviour towards Cymbol, the facility failed to take appropriate action, leading to devastating consequences.

On the fateful day of Cymbol’s passing, his blood sugar levels were improperly managed, leading to a severe decline in his health. Despite efforts to save him, Cymbol tragically succumbed to the effects of insulin overdose, administered by Pressdee.

Following Cymbol’s death, an investigation revealed a pattern of neglect and abuse by Pressdee towards residents under her care, prompting legal action against both the nurse and the facility.

Failures in Oversight and Accountability at Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center

The lawsuit filed against Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center highlights the systemic failures in oversight and accountability that allowed Pressdee to continue her abusive behaviour towards residents.

Despite numerous red flags and warnings from staff members, the facility neglected to address Pressdee’s concerning conduct, ultimately resulting in tragic outcomes for vulnerable residents like Nicholas Cymbol.

The legal action seeks to hold the facility accountable for its negligence in hiring and supervising Pressdee, as well as seeking justice for the victims of her abusive actions.

Legal Action and Ongoing Investigations

Following the shocking revelations of abuse and neglect at Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, legal proceedings have been initiated against both Heather Pressdee and the facility.

Pressdee faces multiple charges, including murder and criminal neglect, for her role in the deaths of residents under her care. The criminal investigation against Pressdee is ongoing, with authorities working to uncover the full extent of her actions.

The lawsuit brought by Nicholas Cymbol’s family seeks justice and accountability for the failures that led to his untimely death, shedding light on the need for stricter regulations and oversight in care facilities.
