During a welfare check at the residence, deputies encountered Baca, who was Grabka’s roommate at the time.

A distressing 911 call from a woman revealed that Grabka had been unresponsive to calls, with his door left unlocked. Upon entering the home, the caller found Grabka’s personal belongings but not the man himself, a situation that raised immediate concern.

Following an investigation, detectives concluded that Grabka had been tragically killed and buried in a makeshift grave in the backyard of the property.

Katherine Roush, a close acquaintance of Grabka, expressed her shock and sorrow at the loss of her dear friend, describing him as a kind-hearted individual.

In a poignant reflection, Roush shared her last encounter with Baca, recounting the eerie interaction she had with him on the night of the tragic incident.

The court decided to detain Baca without bond, assigning him legal representation from the capital defender’s office.

Sheriff Edward McMahon expressed deep concern over the circumstances surrounding the case, offering condolences to the loved ones of the victim and emphasizing the pursuit of justice.
