Las Cruces Man Arrested for Storage Unit Robbery

A man from Las Cruces, New Mexico, found himself in hot water after being arrested in connection to a storage unit robbery that took place in February. The incident occurred on 302 E. Union Avenue, near S. Main Street, where the suspect was identified by his distinctive face tattoos.

Details of the Incident

Jose M. Castaneda, 33, was taken into custody by the Las Cruces Police Department after allegedly breaking into several storage units in the area. The owner of one of the units happened to be driving by when he noticed someone tampering with his belongings. Upon closer inspection, he discovered Castaneda inside the unit, wearing a face mask.

Things took a dangerous turn when Castaneda reportedly brandished a handgun and threatened the owner to back off. The victim, undeterred, bravely confronted the suspect, leading to a tense standoff before Castaneda fled the scene, leaving behind his car and girlfriend.

Identification and Arrest

A few days later, on February 20, the owner of the storage unit was brought to the Las Cruces Police Station to identify the recovered stolen items found in Castaneda’s vehicle. It was during this process that the victim spotted Castaneda’s ID and recognized him as the culprit, thanks to the distinctive tattoos on his face.
