22-Year-Old Suspect Arrested for Fatal Shooting in Oktibbeha County

On a quiet Friday morning in the Sunset subdivision west of Starkville, tragedy struck as a fatal shooting took place. The suspect, identified as 22-year-old Austin Hudson, has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the incident.

Details of the Incident

Deputies from the Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shots-fired call at approximately 8:10 a.m. at a residence on Bennett Drive. Upon arrival, they discovered that a male victim, later identified as 19-year-old Jequarius M. Spencer from Starkville, had been taken to OCH Regional Medical Center by private vehicle. Unfortunately, Spencer succumbed to his injuries and passed away at the emergency room, as confirmed by Coroner Michael Hunt.

Suspect in Custody

Following the investigation, Austin Hudson was taken into custody later that same day. OCSO Capt. Brett Watson revealed that neither the suspect nor the victim resided at the Bennett Drive residence, leaving authorities puzzled as to the nature of their relationship.
