Law enforcement authorities in SALINE COUNTY are investigating a suspect following an alleged violent attack. The incident took place at the Roadway Inn in Salina, where a witness reported a domestic disturbance. The suspect, identified as 48-year-old Jay Weigel from Hays, allegedly broke a car window with a hammer and threatened the victim. After demanding that she exit the car, he proceeded to slash her tire and steal her belongings. Weigel was apprehended by officers the next day and is facing charges for aggravated assault, criminal threat, vehicle burglary, theft, and property damage. The victim, a resident of Winfield, is now safe and receiving support.

SALINE COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are currently investigating a suspect following a disturbing incident that occurred at the Roadway Inn in Salina.
Details of the Incident
On Wednesday evening, a witness at the Roadway Inn, located at 429 West Diamond Drive in Salina, reported a domestic disturbance. The witness heard a woman screaming for help, leading to the discovery of a man allegedly breaking a car window with a hammer.
Salina Police Captain James Feldman explained, “The man, identified as 48-year-old Jay Weigel of Hays, was attempting to get the victim, a 42-year-old woman from Winfield, to exit her car. When she refused, he proceeded to break the driver’s door window with a hammer and threatened her with it.”
Escalation of Events
According to the victim’s account, Weigel had been following her around town until she finally stopped at the Rodeway Inn. Upon demanding that she exit the car, the victim complied and fled the scene. Weigel then allegedly slashed the victim’s driver-side tire and stole her cell phone and wallet from the car.

Consequences and Arrest
The total damage to the victim’s car was estimated at $200, with the missing items valued at over $1,100. Following the incident, officers took the victim’s report and began a search for Weigel. He was located early Thursday morning after a resident reported being followed in town.
Upon identifying the vehicle, officers apprehended Weigel without incident in the area of North College Avenue and West Elm Street. He is currently in custody facing charges for aggravated assault, criminal threat, vehicle burglary, theft, and damage to property.
