Delhi Police’s Economic Offences Wing recently uncovered a fake job racket that scammed 29 individuals out of Rs 7.9 lakh. The arrested culprits, identified as Nikita Thakur, Yogita, Hemlata, and Mohammad Asad, operated a fraudulent recruitment agency from a posh office in Nehru Place. They targeted job seekers with promises of interviews for positions like drivers and security guards in reputable organizations. The gang, which had contacted over 80,000 people through an online job portal, would demand hefty fees for registration and interviews before changing locations to evade capture. The police are working to identify others involved in the scam.

New Delhi: Delhi Police’s Economic Offences Wing recently made a significant breakthrough by busting a fake job racket that had duped 29 innocent individuals of a staggering Rs 7.9 lakh. The masterminds behind this fraudulent operation, identified as Nikita Thakur (32), Yogita (29), Hemlata (38), and Mohammad Asad (22), have all been apprehended and are currently in police custody.

Operating out of a plush office located in the bustling commercial hub of Nehru Place in South Delhi, the gang ran a sophisticated fake recruitment agency. Their modus operandi involved reaching out to more than 500 unsuspecting job seekers daily, offering them lucrative job interviews. Once a victim took the bait, the fraudsters would demand exorbitant sums of money under the guise of registration, interview, and processing fees.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (EOW) Anyesh Roy, the victims were promised positions as drivers, security guards, and field boys in reputed organizations such as Delhi Metro and leading e-commerce companies. However, once the money was extorted from them, the gang would swiftly relocate to evade capture. At the time of their arrest, the culprits had shifted their base of operations to Kaushambi in Ghaziabad.

An extensive investigation uncovered that the accused had obtained the contact details of potential targets from an online job portal and had already reached out to over 80,000 individuals. Additionally, it was revealed that there were other accomplices assisting the gang in making fraudulent calls, and efforts are underway to identify and apprehend them.

The elaborate network of deception orchestrated by this syndicate has not only caused financial harm to the victims but has also eroded trust in legitimate recruitment processes. The Delhi Police’s swift action in dismantling this criminal operation serves as a stern warning to other fraudulent entities preying on unsuspecting job seekers.
