Witnesses Testify in Non-Fatal Shooting Case

During a recent court hearing on March 23, three witnesses were called to testify against the defendant in a non-fatal shooting case that took place in the vibrant city of Washington, D.C.

Details of the Incident

The defendant, Diandre Caesar, 29, is facing multiple charges including assault with a dangerous weapon, second-degree cruelty to children, and possession of a firearm during a crime of violence, following an incident that occurred on June 28, 2022, on the 2200 block of New York Avenue, NE.

The altercation reportedly began over a milk crate in a parking lot, escalating to the point where the defendant allegedly shot at the victim’s vehicle. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in connection with the incident.

Witness Testimonies

One of the victims, who was present during the altercation, testified that she and her boyfriend were at a McDonald’s drive-through with their one-year-old son when they encountered a milk crate blocking their path. The situation escalated when the crate was thrown back and forth between the parties involved.

According to the witness, the defendant kicked the car door of the victims before allegedly firing shots at them as they attempted to drive away. The witness expressed concern for her son’s safety and described the harrowing experience of hearing gunshots and discovering bullet holes in their car.

Another witness, a bus driver for Coach USA, testified that he witnessed the altercation between the individuals involved in the incident. He recounted seeing a man outside a car firing a handgun at the vehicle, further corroborating the events that transpired.

Police Detective Testimony

A Metropolitan Police Department detective who arrived at the scene shortly after the incident testified that she was able to recover video footage from the Salvation Army that captured the altercation between the parties. The detective’s testimony provided additional evidence to support the case against the defendant.

The court proceedings are set to resume on April 1, with further developments expected in the case.
