Missing Persons Advisory

Washington State Troopers issued an Endangered Missing Persons Advisory for Ariel on Thursday. Later that day, the body of a child was discovered along Interstate 5 in Pierce County, and it was confirmed to be Ariel.

Tragic Loss

Expressing her sorrow, Everett Mayor Cassie Franklin said in a statement, “I am completely heartbroken for the family and friends of Ariel Garcia, and they will remain in my thoughts as they grieve this unbelievably tragic loss.”

Investigation Details

Garcia was apprehended by Clark County Sheriff deputies for making false statements shortly after Ariel was reported missing. She claimed that her son had fallen out of a bed and hit his head while they were staying with a friend in Everett. However, the friend returned home to find blood on the floor and both Garcia and Ariel missing.

Conflicting Statements

During questioning, Garcia informed detectives that she had taken Ariel to a hospital but left due to a long wait. She then stated that she dropped him off at a friend’s apartment in Seattle before heading to Ridgefield for alcohol treatment. Surveillance footage later showed her parking her car outside a bar in Ridgefield.

Continuing Investigation

Initially arrested for false statements, Garcia now faces murder charges in Snohomish County. Everett Police Chief John DeRousse stated, “This is not the outcome we had hoped for. Our investigation will continue, and we will do everything we can to ensure there is justice for this young boy.”

Medical Examination

The Snohomish County Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of Ariel’s death as the investigation unfolds.
