Homeless Man Arrested for Fatal Shooting Outside Miami-Dade Grocery Store

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – In a tragic incident, a homeless man was arrested Thursday after police accused him of shooting another man to death outside of a southwest Miami-Dade grocery store last month.

Details of the Incident

According to Miami-Dade police, the incident took place in front of the Davis Grocery Store, located at 21630 SW 120th Ave., in the county’s Goulds area. Police were dispatched to respond to a ShotSpotter alert just after 4 p.m. on Feb. 8.

Upon arrival, authorities found the victim with multiple gunshot wounds to his upper torso, face, and neck area. Despite the efforts of Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel, the victim was pronounced dead at 4:21 p.m., as stated in an arrest report.

Sequence of Events

Investigators determined that the victim had arrived at the Davis Grocery Store in a black Mazda 6, accompanied by unidentified individuals. After making purchases using cash, the victim returned to the vehicle, where Edquan Siquaro Whatley, 26, emerged from the rear passenger side and fired multiple shots, before swiftly departing the area.

During interrogation, Whatley provided several inconsistent statements that contradicted evidence and surveillance footage. Eventually, he confessed on video, leading to his arrest on a charge of second-degree murder with a deadly weapon.
