Detentions in Tajikistan Over Moscow Attack Connection

Nine individuals have been detained by Tajikistan’s state security service over suspected contact with the perpetrators of last week’s attack on a suburban Moscow concert hall, which resulted in the tragic deaths of 144 people. According to reports from Russian state news agency RIA Novosti, the detainees are residents of the Vakhdat district and are believed to have had connections with the individuals responsible for the terrorist attack at Crocus City Hall on March 22.

The operation to detain the suspects involved both Tajikistan’s special services and Russian security forces. The detainees are also suspected of having ties to the Islamic State group, as reported by RIA Novosti.

Additional Arrests and Suspicions

Russia’s Investigative Committee announced the detention of another suspect related to the attack on Crocus City Hall. This individual is suspected of being involved in financing the attack, although further details about their identity and actions have not been disclosed.

Prior to these detentions, 11 suspects had already been arrested, including four individuals who allegedly carried out the attack. The four suspects, identified as Tajik nationals, appeared in a Moscow court on terrorism charges and displayed signs of severe beatings. One of them seemed barely conscious during the court hearing.

Claims and Denials

A faction of the Islamic State group has claimed responsibility for the massacre. However, Russian officials, including President Vladimir Putin, have continuously alleged, without presenting evidence, that Ukraine and Western powers were involved in the attack.

The Investigative Committee stated that there is confirmed data indicating that the attackers received significant amounts of money and cryptocurrency from Ukraine, which were used in planning the crime. Ukraine has denied any involvement and accuses Moscow of using these allegations as a pretext to escalate the conflict in Ukraine.

Continuing Investigation and Rising Death Toll

The death toll from the raid at Crocus City Hall continues to climb, with the number of fatalities increasing to 144 as of Friday. A severely injured victim passed away in the hospital, according to Russian Health Minister Mikhail Murashko.

The investigation into the attack and the connections of the suspects to various groups, including the Islamic State and alleged foreign backers, remains ongoing. Russian authorities are working to uncover the full extent of the plot and bring all those responsible to justice.
