The collision occurred around 1:05 p.m. as Sorensen was travelling southbound on Quimisa Drive. Allegedly, he failed to stop at a posted stop sign and attempted to make a left turn onto W. Los Angeles Avenue. It was at this moment that a vehicle travelling westbound on W. Los Angeles Avenue collided with the bicyclist at the Quimisa intersection. The area’s S curve, which can reduce visibility for road users, may have played a role in the incident.

Simi Valley Police Department’s Commander Ritchie Lew stated that the investigation is still ongoing to determine the exact sequence of events leading to the collision. Another cyclist was with Sorensen at the time, but was not riding alongside him and was not involved in the tragic accident.
