Transport Worker Dies After Falling into Padma River in Daulatdia Upazila
In a tragic incident this morning, a transport worker lost his life after falling into the Padma river at the Daulatdia upazila of Rajbari. The incident occurred at 7:00am at the Daulatdia Launch terminal, sending shockwaves through the local community.
The deceased, identified as Md Firoz Sheikh (28) from Manikganj’s Shibaloy upazila, worked as an assistant for the Selfie Transport Paribahan. According to witnesses at the launch terminal, he unexpectedly fell into the river from the pontoon. Despite initial rescue attempts by locals, they were unable to save him and had to seek help from the Goalanda Fire Service and Daulatdia River Police.
Subsequently, around 8:00am, the Goalanda Fire Service and a diving team arrived at the scene and successfully recovered Firoz’s body by 9:00am. The victim’s father, Asgar Ali Sheikh, revealed that his son had been suffering from epilepsy since childhood.

“He had visited a relative’s house in Goalanda the previous night. While waiting for the launch on the pontoon this morning, he may have had a seizure and accidentally fell into the river,” Asgar Ali Sheikh shared.
Sabekul Islam, the leader of Goalanda Fire Service and Civil Defense Station, confirmed the recovery of the transport worker’s body and its subsequent handover to Daulatdia River Police. Sub-Inspector Md Farid Uddin from Daulatdia River Police Outpost stated that the autopsy had been conducted, and legal procedures were in progress.
